- Invent The Future

today in Virginia a man
entered a college classroom
started with the teacher
then turned to the class
and opened fire
killing around thirty innocent
young students -

soon the families will be
notified
they will sob uncontrollably
draining all the water from their bodies
their minds will turn to red
and want revenge
only to realize that the young murderer
is already dead
for he did the right thing
and killed himself -
only to late

so the mourners will imagine
their sons and daughters
scrambling for their very young lives
filled with gushing holes
in their lungs, hearts, heads and bellies
their last sight filled with
the florescent light above
and the last sounds -
those of horror

they will carry banners and flowers
in remembrance of
April sixteenth two-thousand and seven

but
soon enough everyone but relatives
will forget
and as the bodies pile up
overseas
the media will only move on
the politicians will not lobby
the students will not recall -
the perseverance of the parallel
and
I have already left it behind

and outside my window the great tree
has not today even swayed.
